Case study: Anglian Water

HoloShopWindow allows users to discover the breadth of Anglian Water’s work in an extremely memorable and highly engaging way.

The client

Anglian Water provides water and water recycling services to customers in the east of England.

The challenge

Anglian Water needed a memorable and highly engaging way to stand out at the Innovation Water event 2016. Not only did it need to differentiate themselves from other exhibitors but also, most importantly, allow Anglian Water to present the full breadth of more than 35 innovation projects.

With previous posters and slideshows achieving low engagement and poor memory retention, and 3D models not allowed, something more progressive was needed.

The process

In just one week, we went from concept to creation. Through our daily stand-ups the Shop Window team participated directly in the development, allowing them to make changes as we went along.

The results:

HoloShopWindow was unveiled at the Innovation Water event 2016 at the Houses of Parliament. More than 60 attendees experienced the application, including event participants to Lords from Parliament.

In order to attract more visitors, we used our HoloStream app to easily stream the current users’ view through HoloLens to a display. Participants also shared their amazing experience on social media channels, generating viral content for Anglian Water.

Using HoloLens as a visualisation device enabled Anglian Water to engage participants 10 times longer than with traditional methods.

We were able to display the full breadth of Anglian's innovation projects within the limited space available, and greatly reduced the logisticl effort of setting up an event stand since all we needed were the HoloLens devices.

The ability to view 3D models in real life size allowed Anglian Water to promote their partners at the same time - demonstrating British engineering at its best.

Our outlook:

Following successful appearances at subsequent events, HoloShopWindow could be enhanced by making it a shared holographic experience, meaning that multiple people would be able to see the same holograms and interact with them. In addition, we could create a backend that would allow Anglian Water to easily add new innovation projects, automatically synching to HoloLens.
